The Grammy Awards 2016 will be held on 15th February and the biggest names are slated to perform that evening. Performances by Adele, James Bay, Andra Day, Ellie Goulding, Sam Hunt, Tori Kelly and Lady Gaga have already been confirmed. Latest additions to this list are Justin Bieber and Pitbull. This is one hell of a lineup and fans are eagerly looking forward to the event. Talking of the nominations; it features the usual suspects. Here’s a list of the most popular categories and who we think will take home the coveted award:
RECORD OF THE YEAR
Nominees: Really Love by D’Angelo And The Vanguard, Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars, Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran, Blank Space by Taylor Swift, Can’t Feel My Face by The Weeknd.
Prediction: This award should most likely go to Uptown Funk. The song was on top of charts for the longest time and the video was loved too.
ALBUM OF THE YEAR
Nominees: Sound & Color by Alabama Shakes, To Pimp A Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar, Traveller by Chris Stapleton, 1989 by Taylor Swift, Beauty Behind the Madness by The Weeknd.
Prediction: This is a tough one. While To Pimp A Butterfly is the clear favorite, it wouldn’t be a surprise if 1989 wins this one.
SONG OF THE YEAR
Nominees: Alright by Kendrick Lamar, Blank Space by Taylor Swift, Girl Crush by Little Big Town, See You Again by Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth, Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran.
Prediction: This one will either go to Taylor Swift for Blank Space or Wiz Khalifa for See You Again. Ed Sheeran would stand a stronger chance if his album hadn’t come out so early.
BEST NEW ARTIST
Nominees: Courtney Barnett, James Bay, Sam Hunt, Tori Kelly, Meghan Trainor.
Prediction: The jury will most probably give this Grammy to Meghan Trainor. The singer has been a revelation and her songs Like I’m Gonna Lose You and All About That Bass have fared extremely well.
BEST POP SOLO PERFORMANCE
Nominees: Heartbeat Song by Kelly Clarkson, Love Me Like You Do by Ellie Goulding, Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran, Blank Space by Taylor Swift, Can’t Feel My Face by The Weeknd.
Prediction: This award, too, should go to Taylor Swift as Blank Space was the biggest hit of her album. The Weeknd’s song about drug abuse seems like the only other song that’ll give Swift some competition.
BEST POP DUO/GROUP PERFORMANCE
Nominees: Ship To Wreck by Florence & The Machine, Sugar by Maroon 5, Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson Featuring Bruno, Bad Blood by Taylor Swift Featuring Kendrick Lamar, See You Again by Wiz Khalifa Featuring Charlie Puth.
Prediction: All the songs in this category were hits, but See You Again and Uptown Funk are front runners for this award.
BEST URBAN CONTEMPORARY ALBUM
Nominees: Ego Death by The Internet, You Should Be Here by Kehlani, Blood by Lianne La Havas, Wildheart by Miguel, Beauty Behind the Madness by The Weeknd.
Prediction: The Weeknd should win this hands down. Can’t Feel My Face, In The Night, Earned It and The Hills have made it to Billboard’s Hot 100 and the rest of the nominees barely stand a chance.
BEST COUNTRY ALBUM
Nominees: Montevallo by Sam Hunt, Pain Killer by Little Big Town, The Blade by Ashley Monroe, Pageant Material by Kacey Musgraves, Traveller by Chris Stapleton.
Prediction: Sam Hunt’s Montevallo was one of the biggest hits of last year. The album ranked high on the charts and will most likely win this award.
