Formed in the year 2012, Pineapple Express is a progressive fusion band that embraces and explores the possibilities of all music genres. The brainchild of Yogeendra Hariprasad (composer/keys/vocals), the other master showmen behind this musical prodigy include Karthik Chennoji Rao and Jimmy Francis John on vocals, Bhargav Sarma and Ritwik Bhattacharya with fretboard prowess, Shravan on the violin, Arjun on the flute, and Gopi Shravan on drums, all managed by Subhash Rao.
The Journey So Far:
The band rose to fame after they were featured on Music Mojo, Kappa TV in 2016. Their originals Money and Find You received great response from music fanatics and Pineapple Express took a flight to fame. Having performed at multiple events across India including NH7 Weekender Pune, the band created some noteworthy originals last year including an EP album called Uplift. Another step forward for the band was the collaboration with Benny Dayal for the song Fire.
Why People Love Them:
Pineapple Express attracts all kinds of music lovers as they don’t conform to a particular genre or language. They are diverse in terms of their music and also the people behind it. “Each member in the band, comes from a different place, with their own techniques and with a very different approach to making, playing and listening to music, and that organically leads to fusion,” says Yogeendra Hariprasad, the man who brought together all these musical gems. He also adds that a significant amount of attention is paid to context, note selection, and quality control to ensure that the personality of the band is imprinted on each song.
On December 2018, the band released Anthem, which is said to be the manifestation of everything they stand for. “Anthem is about crossing hurdles, dealing with adversity, and doing whatever it takes to come out on top and defeat your demons,” says guitarist Ritwik Bhattacharya.
Their unique approach to music making has earned them a lot of dedicated fans around the country. “Our biggest wins are the shows we play and the people we play to. Meeting (the) audience after a show who tell us that they’ve never heard or watched anyone like us before is a very rewarding experience,” says Karthik Chennoji Rao (vocalist). Apart from their incredible music, the additional ammunition that makes Pineapple Express stand out is their stage presence. “We want our live shows to be an even bigger spectacle. This is where the lights and visuals come in to add even more impact to an already power-packed musical performance,” says Bhargav Sarma.
Pineapple Express has more in store for 2019. There is going to be a lot more content, a whole lot of live shows, a few music videos, an EP launch in May, and then a full album launch in October. Do not miss Pineapple Express the next time they hit your city. Their crescendos are worth craving for and watching them live is a surreal experience.
