Sound Check: Daawat-e-Ishq

The duality of writing about food and music is that you can never get enough of both. The music of Daawat-e-Ishq has the flavor of Lucknow and Hyderabad in abundance making it an irresistible affair to surmount. Masterchefs from the kitchens of Yash Raj Films plate the formulaic recipes with their own bit of spice and ice!

Kausar Munir’s lyrics fuels Sajid-Wajid’s music for Habib Faisal’s second outing with YRF. The music of this film is consciously made to sound loud and the makers nowhere attempt to establish subtlety in the compositions. The key element in the album is celebration of the enthusiasm and variety in love via food. The title soundtrack sung by Javed Ali and Sunidhi Chauhan gives you a high, much like what kebabs do to a hunger struck appetite. Daawat-e-Ishq is a contemporary qawwali that leaves you hungover which is subdued with an instrumental track of the same.

Mannat is a romantic track but far from being a love ballad. The music supports the power that the song initiates which works in favor of Mannat. The song is also rendered in a reprise version sung by Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal.

The tracks in this album are unapologetically flashy which is in sync with the spirit of the story. Rangreli, sung by musician Wajid and Shreya Ghoshal is yet again an energetic number which reminds much of the previous works of music directors Sajid-Wajid. Rangreli comes from the territory of Sajid-Wajid music most often seen in Salman Khan-starrers. The lyrics go unnoticed amidst the overblown instruments in the background.

Shayarana, being in Habib Faisal’s Daawat-e-Ishq with Parineeti in the frame and Shalmali Kholgade lending vocals, is a happy coincidence that reminds one of Pareshaan from Ishaqzaade with the same actor and technicians. The euphoria infused is pleasant, and for this reason Shayarana is the only track that stands out from the rest of the songs. Jaadu Tone Waaliyan sung by Shabab Sabri is the least impressive of them all.

Yash Raj Films have created music with India’s best singers and musicians and Daawat-e-Ishq is yet another brick added. The album though is not one of the best from the house of Yash Raj but it has tempo with a lot of fusion of instruments from the cities of Hyderabad and Lucknow. Give it a go!
