Sound Check- Half Girlfriend

Verdict-  A little funk, a lot of romance.

The much-awaited adaptation of Chetan Bhagat's bestseller, Half Girlfriend,  is all set to release next week with the same title, under the direction of Mohit Suri, who has previously given to us hits like Aashiqui 2, Woh Lamhe, Awarapan and Murder 2. The movie, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor as the lead, is already in the news for Shraddha Kapoor's style and for the sizzling chemistry between Madhav and Riya (Arjun and Shraddha) which we can see from the trailer. The other reason for the movie to be trending so much is the Half Girlfriend album, which comprises of 10 songs sung by 12 playback singers with six composers and 12 lyricists. So what is our review of this album? Take a look.

Phir Bhi Tumko Chaahunga
Giving us a little nostalgia of Aashiqui 2, this one is going to be a new anthem for lovers as we have already mentioned in the trailer break. Phir Bhi Tumko Chaahunga is extremely soothing to the ears and has gained a lot of popularity ever since the trailer released. The reprised version of the song, Pal Bhar, is even better to listen to.

This is a beautiful, romantic number you cannot help fall in love with it.  Baarish is everything from fresh to melodious and doesn't leave you for a long time. Sung by Ash King and Shashaa Tirupati, this one is our favorite from the movie.

Thodi Der
Lyricist Farhan Saeed in the voice of Shreya Ghosal gives to us Thodi Der. While the song is really pretty and pictured really well, it did not appeal to us as much as the others. It doesn't stop here. If you thought there was just a Hindi version, wait until you hear Stay A Little Longer, which is the exact same thing translated in English.

Tu Hi Hai
This movie has experimented with a lot of genres in music and adding an element of sufi was surely a good idea. Tu Hi Hai, both composed and sung by Rahul Mishra, adds a little variety to the album and although the song takes a lot of time to grow on you, it may have a different impact post the release of the movie.

Lost Without You
In case you thought Stay A Little Longer was the only English song in the movie, wait till you hear Lost Without You. This one is a balanced mixture of Hindi and English and is slightly better than the other one.

Mere Dil Mein
While the movie has a lot of songs on romance and heartbreak, they have managed to add a little funk to the album by keeping the title track peppy and very well rhymed. Mere Dil Mein, sung by Veronica Mehta and Yash Narveka impressive you with its rap and also continues with a 'Dialogue Version' which has only dialogues of the rap.

Half Girlfriend Love Theme
Lastly, the Half Girlfriend Love Theme is the instrumental version of Phir Bhi Tumko Chaahunga, which is just about average and can be skipped.
