New Movies In Theaters Exaggerated With Sex & Violence

"To make a successful film you need three things only: Entertainment, Entertainment and Entertainment", said Silk (Vidya Balan) in Dirty Picture. In India it holds true! And the new movies in theaters incorporate the entertainment factor either through violence or vulgarity.

Cinema is synonymous for entertainment in India which has one of the oldest film industry in the world. The first ever product of the Indian film industry was Raja Harishchandra (1913) by Dadasaheb Phalke. This debut venture was a commercial success and there on followed a series of movies based on Indian epic stories and characters. With the advent of 1930s, other film-makers emerged and the themes of the matinee movies shifted from Indian epic to socially relevant issues. In the 1950s till 1990s, eminent film-makers like Raj Kapoor, Bimal Roy and Guru Dutt blessed the Indian film industry with some spectacular movies like Awaara; Shri 420; Do Bigha Zamin; Devdas and Sahib, Bibi aur Gulam.

Soon after 1990s, there was a dramatic shift in the style of matinee movies that churned out from the Indian film industry owing to globalization. One of the largest film industry, Indian cinema brings out around 800-900 movies per year and off late most Bollywood movies are deemed with too much of ‘dishum dishum’ or ‘ intimate’ scenes.

Initially, new Bollywood movies in theaters were family oriented with a simple plot line of good vs evil or boy meets girls romance, so that people across the nation could relate to it easily. However, there is a gradual shift in the content of the movie matinee releasing every week, which threatens the values of the Indian society.

To make a movie a blockbuster hit, the current formula of incorporating extreme vulgarity with high sexual references and irrelevant violence scenes is a growing concern of the Indian film industry. The unnecessary and avoidable sex and violence factors are not well suited for the majority of India audiences where children too form a large section. The present day visualization of sex and violence in new movies in theaters is not only against the conventional Indian traditions, but also effects the mental and emotional mould of the young generation and the children of country adversely.
