Newsmakers of The Month: May

 The South film industry has had its fair share of hits and misses in May. While some films struck a chord with the audience, others failed to grab attention. However, the biggest damp squib of the month was the Mahesh Babu-starrer, Brahmotsavam. The film opened to unfavorable reviews from the audience and critics. Apart from news about films, actors also made headlines; whether their personal lives or their association with films or simply because they are stars. The attention grabbers, the achievers and the newsmakers – we share a list of significant developments that unfolded in May.

Suriya to the Rescue

Actor Suriya proved that he can be a hero in real life too. The actor helped a woman after she was allegedly threatened by two boys, whose vehicle rammed into her car. The actor who was passing by voiced his support for the lady. Soon, a complaint was filed against Suriya by one of the boys, who accused the actor of slapping him. The complaint was soon withdrawn by the boy after the woman took to her social media account and thanked Suriya for his timely help. This is who we call a hero!

Idhu Namma Aalu Hits Screens

Pandiraj’s Idhu Namma Aalu, which was made three years ago, finally hit screens in May. The film brought ex-flames – Silambarasan and Nayanthara on screen after 10 years. 

U Turn Receives Praise

Kannada film U Turn, released in May and opened to good reviews. Directed by Pawan Kumar (of Lucia fame), this supernatural thriller, focused on road safety. If reports are to be believed, then the film will be made in Telugu and Tamil as well.

Kabali is Unstoppable

Ever since the teaser of Kabali was released on 1st May, 2016, it has only garnered praises. With over 20 million views (and counting), it is now it the most-viewed Indian film teaser on YouTube. It will also be the first Indian film to be dubbed in Malay.

Anirudh and Ajith Team Up

After scoring the massively catchy song Aaluma Doluma for the Ajith-starrer Vedalam, music composer Anirudh is all set to work with the actor the second time. Anirudh took to his Twitter account to announce that he will be composing music for director Siva’s next venture starring Ajith in the lead.

Samantha in Love

Samantha is one of Tollywood and Kollywood cinema’s most popular stars, and reports of her personal life are equally popular. According to an interview published in a magazine, Samantha has admitted that she is seeing someone. Reports also claim that he is a popular Telugu actor and the two will tie the knot very soon. However, Samantha told her followers on Twitter that the news of her wedding is not true.

Janatha Garage

On the occasion of Jr NTR and Mohanlal’s respective birthdays in May, the team of Janatha Garage released two exclusive first-look posters from the film. The much-anticipated film is directed by Koratala Siva and is likely to release in July 2016.

Fahadh Faasil’s Debut in Tamil Cinema

Popular Malayalam star Fahadh Faasil is all set to make his Tamil debut in Mohan Raja’s upcoming film. The two recently had a script discussion too. Will Fahadh be the next Siddharth Abhimanyu? We’ll have to wait and watch. 

A Prequel to 24

Director Vikram Kumar and Suriya’s film 24, opened to superb reviews and good box office numbers. The sci-fi film revealed some details and withheld much more, making fans wonder if there’ll be a sequel/prequel to the film. The director and other crew members have confirmed that 24 may indeed have a prequel. 

Siddharth and G. V.  Prakash Join Hands

Siddharth and music composer-turned-actor G. V. Prakash will soon be seen together in Sasi‘s upcoming film. Tamil cinema has always welcomed multi-starrers and we hope this one works too.
