The nominations are in!

2014 was a good year for films, and the Oscar nominees this year are proof of exactly that. Just like every year, this set of nominations had its fair share of surprises – some pleasant, others not so much.

With 9 nominations each, Birdman and Boyhood came out on top of the Oscar race. What’s better? Michael Keaton also earned a nomination for Best Actor, making it his first Oscar nod ever! Another pleasant surprise was Selma being nominated for Best Picture. However, we would certainly have loved to see Carmen Ejogo getting some recognition.

That wasn’t the only snub of the year, though. Gone Girl and The Lego Movie were the most notable snubs of the year. Though most people expected Fincher to get a nod for his work, the film only earned one nomination – Best Actress for Rosamund Pike. The Lego Movie, on the other hand, only received a nomination for Best Song (Everything is Awesome – The Lonely Island feat. Tegan and Sara).

Everyone reacted to their nominations and snubs differently. Though Jennifer Aniston canceled a press junket after her Oscar disappointment, others took it in stride. Philip Lord, the creator of The Lego Movie, simply fashioned himself a trophy made out of… You know it, Legos!
