Television has a lot to answer for. We have witnessed history. Laughed, cried and yelled with the rest of the world. We have watched some brilliant TV shows and interviews. But the 21st century has given us a guilty pleasure: the reality TV show phenomenon. We were hooked from the get-go. In the span of 14 years, we have had some really cool shows, and a few dog eggs. But have you wondered what ever happened to those winners? Now, that is a thought. Lets take a look at a few, shall we?
Richard Hatch won the very first Survivor in 2000. We got to see a naked man win a million dollars. Where is he now? He is doing his best, surviving in jail. Incarcerated for tax evasion, he has got a few years till he ‘gets off the island’.
2. American Idol:
The first ever American Idol gave us Kelly Clarkson. We were hooked from the moment Simon Cowell berated people in the auditions. These days, Kelly Clarkson is a Grammy Award winner and a country western star. She has really made her mark in the world of music.
3. Britain’s Got Talent:
The very first season of Britain’s Got Talent brought a new twist to the reality show. In this, we had performers from every genre vying for the top spot. Simon Cowell continued plying us with his vitriolic statements. The show is memorable for those stories behind the scenes. Everyone had theirs to tell. And the one that touched the hearts of millions was the story of Paul Potts. A mobile salesman by day and amateur singer by night, Paul Potts didn’t inspire confidence when he first showed up on stage. But once he started to sing Nessun Dorma, everyone’s eyes welled up. In that moment, Paul Potts made it to the big time. Now, his life has been immortalised in film “One Chance.”
4. America’s Got Talent:
The second season of America’s Got Talent can be best remembered because of the winner. Terry Fator won the finale with his talent: ventriloquism. Before you groan and roll your eyes, there is a twist. Terry Fator could sing the classics almost as good as legends like Etta James, Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong and many more. With that in the bag, he is now on Las Vegas as a headliner at The Mirage Hotel and Casino.
These are just a few of winners who made it to the big time. And now, you can watch the story of Paul Potts once again. Get your tickets to Johnny Walker – The Journey and watch Paul Potts in session in One Chance. Till then, keep walking.
