Okkadu Migiladu: Film Review – Fight for Your Rights!

Verdict: Leaves the audience underwhelmed.

Okkadu Migliladu starring Manchu Manoj, Anisha Ambrose and Ajay Andrews Nuthakki in lead roles also has Milind Gunaji, Suhasini and Posani among the rest of the cast. Directed by Ajay Andrews Nuthakki, the music and the background score of Okkadu Migiladu has been rendered by Siva Nandigama. The cinematography has been handled by V.K. Rama Raja. Set against the backdrop of Tamil refugees in Srilanka, Okkadu Migiladu has Manchu Manoj playing two different characters. Produced by Lakshmikant and S.N. Reddy, the theatrical trailers and teasers created a decent buzz surrounding this flick. It has been a while Manchu Manoj had a hit. Let's see if Okkadu Migiladu gives him the much-deserved break.

WHAT'S OKKADU MIGILADU ABOUT:

The movie opens with Surya (Manchu Manoj) and his friends being tortured at the police station without a case being filed. Corrupt police want Surya to sign a document that saves the Education Minister's (played by Milind Gunaji) son and his friends, to get an acquittal from the charges of raping and murdering three students. Shivaji (Posani) is an honest police officer transferred to the police station where Surya and his friends are being interrogated. Surya narrates the actual story behind the killings of the three students to Shivaji, two of whom are refugees from Sri Lanka. Surya explains how Peter (Manchu Manoj) saved thousands of Tamil refugees in Sri Lanka and how he laid his life for the welfare of his people. On his deathbed, he advised his friend Victor (Ajay Andrews Nuthakki) to take this fight for their rights forward and save as many lives as possible even after his death. Victor and a few other survivors in the war, catch a boat to sail away to India. Were they able to reach India? Was Surya able to get justice and put the criminals behind bars? To know all these, watch Okkadu Migiladu at a theatre near you.

WHAT WORKS:

The war episode between Peter's army and the Sri Lankan forces is well executed in the first half. The camera work throughout the movie is fantastic, especially in the war episode in first half. Dialogues highlighting the freedom struggle is filled with emotions. The background score gels well with the flow of the movie. The best part of the movie is that it does not have any songs. Editing and artwork are decent. Manchu Manoj's acting was extraordinary in both the characters – Surya and Peter. Director Ajay Andrews Nuthakki had a lengthy role and was good.

WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER:

The direction and screenplay could have been better. With a riveting story in place, a good screenplay and better direction would have made Okkadu Migiladu a movie to remember. Unfortunately, it faltered a little in these areas. The boat journey seems to last for longer than necessary.

WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH THIS MOVIE:

You can watch Okkadu Migiladu for some gripping action episodes and power-packed performance by Manchu Manoj.
