Phuntroo: Film Review – A Fun Filled Sci-Fi Flick

Verdict: A light Sci-Fi love story that has pockets of comedy in it.

is another film that is based on the topic of Artificial Intelligence. A subject that is not explored much in Marathi cinema. The National Film Award winner, Sujay Dahake has presented us with brilliant films such as Shala and Ajoba. Now through his latest film, Phuntroo, he has tried to show us what all could happen when you try to infuse human elements in AI.
Phuntroo - BookMyShow

The Balak-Palak actor, Madan Deodhr plays the lead character, Vira in this film. Vira is a socially awkward guy who is also an intelligent engineering student. He is obsessed to be the guy who comes up with the next scientific breakthrough. The Timepass 2 actress, Ketki Mategaonkar plays his love interest, Anaya. Vira is completely captivated by her and secretly wants to date to her. He also tries to approach her in a very odd way, but that just ends up scaring her away. This leaves our boy genius heartbroken.

One fine day while working on a project for the gadget competition, he stumbles upon an invention created by the late founder of his university. Vira studies the invention and builds on it further. Thus, giving life to Phuntroo – a holographic AI who is a splitting image of Anaya (not creepy at all!). In the later half of the film, Vira tries to turn Phuntroo into a real person. This adds some more complication to the already complicated love story.

The overall movie has a refined look but there are some instances in the film which will make you question your logic. The dialogue delivery done by the lead actors, Mandar and Ketki are excellent. The scenes in this movie will scare you, make you laugh, and creep you out a little a couple of times. Overall, this is a fun filled movie which you can definitely go for if you are in a mood for some light humor.

Why You Should Watch This Movie:
This movie touches on an interesting topic and has some real fun elements in it. Watch this movie to catch Mandar Deodhar and Ketki Mategaonkar’s stellar performance.
