With the first look of Zanjeer being unveiled just a few days ago, the first question that came to our minds (immediately after having seen Ramcharan as the actor who dons the role of Vijay immortalised by Bollywood's superstar, Amitabh Bachchan) was, who shall play the fearless yet fragile, the helpless yet happening female lead, previously portrayed by Jaya Bhaduri (Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bhaduri are known to have fallen in love and consequently got married during the making of this 1973-film). But the answer was right there infront of us… It had to be Priyanka Chopra. Hands down.
Although her versatility attracts heaps of varied roles for her, off late Piggy Chops seems to be the filmmakers' first and only choice as the lead actress as far as the remakes are concerned. Don
and now Zanjeer
, Priyanka Chopra scores a remake hat-trick with this film that releases
Replacing the once-upon-a-time
sex symbol of Bollywood, Zeenat Aman
, Madhavi in Agneepath and Jaya Bhaduri in Zanjeer, PC is doing far too well to have been hailed for such iconic roles. If Don gave her enough credential for the first-rate portrayal of Roma, she looked like an unrequired element in Agneepath as Kali. Nonetheless, her character came out sound.
Now with Zanjeer, she is back with yet another remake saga and brings forth Mala who isn't a small town woman earning her living by street performances but a hottie flown down from abroad to attend a marriage ceremony. Vouching for her sincerity, Ramcharan agrees that PC has done an overwhelming job with her role in the film but how will PC transform Mala's character to fit in the film requirements, only time will tell.
Having scored a hat-trick for taking up the lead role in remakes, it would be a surprise if we should see her in the remake of say the epic family drama
, Amar Akbar Anthony, but the question is, for what character will she be the most apt for?
