Pineapple Calamari: Short Film Review

Many films have been made about aspiration- some dark and gritty, others warm and fuzzy. If there’s one short that strikes the perfect balance between these extremes, it’s Pineapple Calamari.

The delightful stop-motion short film follows a horse who dreams of becoming a racing champion. However, a tragic accident threatens to change everything for him. What follows is a story that is both beautiful and absurd in its depiction of the pursuit of dreams.

Pineapple Calamari effortlessly does what so many feature films have struggled to do. The film takes a ludicrous tragedy and puts a heart-warming spin on it. The result is Kasia Nalewajka‘s magical short film that makes you laugh, cry and everything in between.

All this, combined with its brilliant animation style, makes Pineapple Calamari one of the most enchanting short films to be released in recent years. If you only watch one short film this week, make sure it’s this one:
