Pinga vs. Dola Re Dola: Why the Devdas Classic is Irreplaceable

Sanjay Leela Bhansali has done it again. He has brought his two actresses from Bajirao Mastani to shake a leg together. Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra can be seen matching their steps in the song Pinga. However, the song has received mixed reactions. What most people are instantly reminded of is the Devdas classic jugalbandi with Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

The songs are being compared; as is everything else from the dance moves to the costumes and the sets. We conducted a twitter poll to gauge our audience’s thoughts. And the result shows Dola Re Dola to be the true winner. We couldn’t agree more! Here’s why the iconic song still rules our heads and hearts.

The Dance Moves
Remo D’Souza’s choreography though impressive falls short before Saroj Khan‘s steps. The grace and the zeal generally associated with the lavani dance is probably missing.

The Costumes
The red and white sarees in Dola Re Dola were way more vibrant and rich than the red and purple lavani costumes in Pinga
The Sets
The lamps, the drapes, the chandeliers and the rangoli just added so much vibrancy in the Dola Re Dola set. The Pinga set in comparison lacks spirit.

The Song
The track lacks the energy one found in Dola Re Dola
