PK: Film Review – Outlandish yet heart-warming

We discuss politics. We discuss films. We discuss people. But when we discuss religion, there is always something that holds us back. It might not be an issue with everyone, but most of us will agree. And now, here comes PK. With childlike curiosity, PK searches for answers to questions that no one has asked before. He tries to understand complex philosophies of life and religion through his naive questions. The answers he unravels will make you scrutinize your own beliefs and reality. Such is the power of PK. Simple, yet evocative.

Rajkumar Hirani plays with his signature style of filmmaking. Munnabhai made us laugh, Rancho gave us lessons on true education, and PK tells us the true meaning of faith, love and friendship. It will remind you of other films like Umesh Shukla’s OMG and Rajit Kapur’s Ankhon Dekhi. But what makes PK shines is its unique storytelling, humor and of course, the flamboyant Aamir Khan.

As PK, Aamir Khan gives a stellar performance. His body language, the expressions and the Bhojpuri accent steal the show. Anushka Sharma as Jaggu also does a wonderful job. It won’t be justified if I don’t mention Saurabh Shukla and Sanjay Dutt. They are both brilliant, especially Saurabh Shukla as the manipulative Godman. After the interval, the film takes a downward turn. Melodrama ensues. Despite the good performances by the characters, certain scenes of the film are stale and the climax feels a bit too lengthy for a simple story like PK. It makes you ask, "Is this a waste of time?" But thankfully, PK recovers from it soon. The music by Atul Gogavale and Shantanu Moitra is fresh, but doesn’t make a lasting impact.

Why should you watch the film? PK is a fun film to watch. Watch it for Aamir Khan’s outlandish yet heart-warming performance. PK will make you smile, laugh and cry. And most of all, he will make you realize how important it is to believe in ourselves and humanity, rather then following any faith blindly. Just the perfect message to usher in the New Year.

If u compare with omg aamir khan role was nowhere connected with akshay kumar as akshay kumar plays a role of a god..may be u can say for paresh rawal who opens everybody mind on blind faith…anyways movie was a onetime watch for me…but really worth watching …go to have some fun…

Shruti sorry I think You are wrong nobody can degrades all faiths. The movies only warn us about the faith on so called rubbish BABA’s who are sell our fear, that they shows they are only the manager of God who make better every thing but its completely a wrong no. Our destiny which is govern by some divine energy is must happened during your whole life, only thing is you slowdown or minimize the effect of destiny by only control on your body and mind by meditation and yoga this only single remedy of all problems.

@ reema, u took the message of movie wrongly. The movie tried to bring oneness of the faith instead of dividing it among various gods and godesses. It does not challenged hinduism or any particular faith but tried to show that we humans who are all the children of One God are so biased in terms of our faiths that an alien got totally confused about the basics we are living with. Plz don’t carry wrong message for such a good effort made by Aamir and hirani.

As a movie it’s just average! It reveals blind faiths about religions and God. Relates our cultures and beliefs that we have in day to day life. Everybody should learn from it. However, ‘the story’ scatters all the good parts of the movie. Rather, it should have been more structured and so many things should have not been shown but concentrated on some major important aspects. Actually, this is the problems with some good movies. They try to cover each and every part of their concept. Consequently, the interest of the viewers degrades. As a viewer of concept, one can learn from it so well…

As a movie it’s just average! It reveals blind faith in religions and God. Extremely relates our cultures and beliefs that we have in day to day life. Extra ordinary performance of Aamir Khan and others actors did well too. Humorous, dramatic, eye opener. However, ‘the story’ scatters all the good parts of the movie. Rather, it should have been more structured and so many things should have not been shown but concentrated on some major important aspects. Actually, this is the problems with some good movies. Directors try to cover each and every part of their concept. Consequently, the interest of the viewers degrades. As a viewer of concept, one can learn from it so well… It’s been enormously liked by people, may be coz it’s far better than the sort of bollywood movies shown nowadays…

    I agree with you shruti….
show only Hinduism symbol as agent and try to give a wrong message to young generation
and cover your own faith and religion
and show them better is not a good way to make a massage full movie
movie is average and similar as OMG

Mr Sherlock ….you are right with what you wrote. I can say that you are a broad minded person.movie is all about entertainment but I see that many people took it on their belief.my faith remain within me .but I don’t see any harm to various religion..it just predict our present religious leader.i see no messages telling that will hurt the religious sentiment.i am under graduate but this people claim themselves educated but they are still so ignorant..

The movie is wrongly depicting our Indian culture & targets the religions of India. For example the UFO lands in India and the first scene is of stealing. Followed by disregarding mostly Hindu gods. For a common man it might appear that this is movie is after all religion , but in fact it clearly targets Hinduism . Also the concept of dancing car is not accepted. The alien has no bad habits only stealing from the car( Maruti Suzuki). Overall the movie is average.

Horrible “stupid” movie. If you like movies about the mentally ill you will like this IQ lacking movie. Let me put it this way – if you liked Burfi you will like this.
