We are all aware of AIDS and how fatal the disease is. Positive, directed by Farhan Akhtar, is his take on AIDS awareness through the story of the Sonis, a nuclear urban family.
The movie shows how something as common as unprotected sexual relation can ruin your otherwise perfectly fine life. He has depicted the situation through a brief father-son story, where the son, Abhijit Soni, is irritated with his father because of his extra-marital affairs and has lost the love he once had for him. On the other side, Mr. Soni turns out to be HIV positive and has only a few days of his life left. In those few days, through ups and downs, both of them kind of rediscover the love between them.
Written by Rajesh Devraj, the story is kept open ended for the viewers to interpret. It is also like an option given to those who watch it. The option to be at the place where the Soni family is or to be on the healthier side. Small references in the movie regarding the support HIV patients need and how it takes just a moment to ruin everything in your life, makes the movie a lot more meaningful. With actors like Shabana Azmi and Boman Irani, this short film scores well in terms of performances. Arjun Mathur plays his role very convincingly.
This movie urges you to understand how not protecting yourself may deteriorate your life suddenly without even giving you the time or chance to correct the mistakes you have made in your life.
