PREVIEW- IPL 2013: SCHEDULE

PEPSI IPL-6: Bigger and Better

Less than a month to go for the sixth edition of the Indian Premier League- IPL 2013, where new alliances, partnerships and teams are already being formed behind the scenes. The Ambanis, Zintas and Roys have already made their first moves towards the next season- with the only noticeable and much-talked aspect of IPL 2013 being a name-change (with an owner-change).

The former Deccan Chargers, known mainly for their extremely unpredictable seasons going from low to high to lower lows, are now known as the Sun Risers. No guesses for who their new owners are- with Sun TV Network buying the cash-strapped franchise for a whopping 625 crore after the BCCI terminated the Chargers a few months ago. Sadly, that means there will be no more eye-pleasing sights of the attractive Gayatri Reddy (Anthropologist and former owner) cheering from the stands anymore.

The other massive change in IPL-6? The title sponsor. Pepsi Co. have taken over from DLF after the expiry of their 5-year contract. Expect uncreative phrases and lines cooked up by Gavaskar, Shastri and co. for this year’s IPL- with sixes, fours, wickets and catches set to acquire new ‘brand names’.

That apart, there will be no Kochi team this year- with only 9 PEPSI IPL teams taking part in this sixth edition. More than 80 players will participate as part of these 9 squads, with Mumbai Indians making the biggest pre-tournament waves once again. If only hype translated into a title victory, Mumbai would have been 4-time defending champs by now. Ricky Ponting will captain Sachin Tendulkar and Harbhajan Singh in the same team- with the likes of Pollard, Malinga, Dwayne Smith and Rohit Sharma playing under him. If all else fails, hire an Australian to lead the team- it seems to have worked for the Royals in the first season, and the Chargers in the second- why not the Mumbai Indians this time? Tickets for the Mumbai Indian games are already available on our website, with Wankhede set to host all the home games. The IPL 2013 Schedule is already out too, as well as the full squads.

Defending Champions Kolkata Knight Riders will take on the Sehwag-led Daredevils at Eden Gardens exactly 2 years after Team India lifted the World Cup trophy in Mumbai.
