In the evolving comedy circuit, many people are unaware of improv comedy. Improv, also improvisational theatre, is a form of theatre/comedy where all or most of what is performed is unscripted and on-the-spot. It has acts, stories, sketches, and games that end up being funny and bizarre with on-spot improvisation.
PunchTantraa are the first-of-their-kind radical mime group in India. They specialize in movie spoofs, ad spoofs, mime, and improv. Their shows down South are fairly popular. However, for the 175th show, they chose to grace Mumbai with A Dash of Improv. Their USP is their clean comedy and an unconventional approach towards the act. And we decided to review it in the most conventional way – by attending it!
A Dash of Improv was actually all about improv. Nothing that they performed was scripted, except the format of the games. Yes, their show comprised of games that included PunchTantraa team members creating a scene within the set format. For example, take Dumb Charades but with a twist (this is just an example). What also proves their on-spot content is that the story-line or themes were taken from the audience.
Their team (that included several people) put up an entertaining show with whatever inputs they got from the audience. The one-and-a-half hour show was highly engaging. The way they built the story in every format portrayed their brilliant sense of humor, also showing us that they are really good at what they do. The twists in every format definitely made the show funnier for us to see.
Team PunchTantraa have really got their punches on point and you must visit one of their shows. They keep performing in Bengaluru, Chennai, and cities nearby and you can always book your tickets on BookMyShow.
Things to remember while attending PunchTantraa:
— Be ready to be called on stage and trying some improv yourself as the team pulls out random people from the audience to join them in their acts.
— Their sarcasm is on point and hence you might get picked on too.
Please note: If you had a great time and laughed a lot, it is because of their talent and if you didn't that's because of your bad inputs.
