Raaz Reboot: Film Review – Not really worth rebooting

Verdict: Just a slightly fine-tuned version of the same old story, with nothing to boot.

When it comes to horror films in Bollywood, a frequent title is Vikram Bhatt's 'Raaz' franchise. With the first film way back in 2002, the franchise continues with its fourth film – Raaz Reboot. None of the films are plot continuations or 'direct sequels' though. While the first one was praised since it was fresh back then, the quality has declined by the sequel. Although this 'reboot' might break the pattern of decline, it still has nothing to boot.

The film features Shaina (Bollywood debutant Kriti Kharbanda) and Rehaan (Gaurav Arora), a married couple who has just moved to Romania. Rehaan seems to be keeping a 'raaz' from his wife, upsetting her in the process. They are already drifting apart and she begins to experience some creepy instances at home. Before we know it, she gets possessed. With Rehaan dismissing her concerns as madness at first, she turns to her ex-flame Aditya (serial kisser Emraan Hashmi) who is eager to help her out.

Shot entirely in Romania, most scenes have an authentic feel to it – whether it's the large house they stay in or even the cafes they go to. The cold European winter only adds to the eeriness of the film. The rest of the film has nothing new since there are a few jump scares, with scenes influenced by Hollywood heavyweight horrors. Like the previous Raaz films, this one too has songs that have become popular much before the film's release. Two famous songs from this film are Lo Maan Liya and Raaz Aakhein Teri, which are both sung by everybody's favorite Arijit Singh.

Very popular in the South, Kriti's performance makes for a good Bollywood debut. Gaurav, who himself made his debut with Vikram Bhatt's Love Games earlier this year, has shown an improvement. After starring in the previous two Raaz installments, Emraan continues to feature in the films, performing consistently too.

Why You Should Watch This Movie:
Watch it if you have enjoyed the previous Raaz films, since this one isn't too different either.
