Raees: Film Review – Dimag + Daring = Full Masala Entertainer

Verdict – SRK and Nawaz deliver an intense crime-drama.

Shah Rukh Khan is the king of romance and he has proved it beyond a doubt in the past decades. This time, however, his romance takes a backseat and his action avatar is a delightful change of palate. Set in the 80s-90s, Raees gives you all the dose of crime and action you need this weekend.

Raees Alam is a street-smart kid in Fatehpur, Gujarat – a dry state. Raees has the disposition for business and, in his words, daring of a miyabhai. He has a childhood companion Sadiq (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub) and they are like brothers. They both start off by working for the local liquor-makers and bootleggers. But Raees was not born to take orders and starts his own bootlegging business. After all, mummy has instilled in young Raees the value of dignity of labor. Raees is a principled gangtsa with his heart in the right place. He is soon invincible but where’s the fun if there is no chase? So, enter Majmudar (played brilliantly by Nawazuddin Siddiqui). Majmudar is a principled cop and is no stranger to transfers.

He vows to finish Raees and keeps a track of his criminal activities quite passionately – wherever he is posted.
Raees - BookMyShowThe first half tracks Raees in the making – from his first con job to him achieving the status of a messiah, who also bootlegs liquor. It also introduces his love interest – played by Mahira Khan. The second half takes us through some exciting encounters between Raees and Majmudar. Having said that, a little more editing would’ve done wonders!

SRK looks a perfect 10, to say the least, and delivers a punch. Nawazuddin’s dry wit and his portrayal of an obsessive cop is easily one of the highlights of the movie. Their interactions are full of whistle-worthy dialogs and the masala quotient is enjoyable. Mahira doesn’t get much screen time but she is quite good whenever she is in the scenes. The music is strictly okay but the background score is very well designed. However, Laila Main Laila is a great track for at least two reasons we can think of.

Shah Rukh Khan in and as Raees” is a smart throwback to the crime-action movies of the 70s-80s-90s, which had plenty of drama. In case you miss that, the film has a small scene in the drive-in theatre that confirms this. Don’t miss this cheeky reference.

Why You Should Watch This Movie:
Watch Raees for Nawaz and SRK. Their solo scenes are great but their interactions are delectable. Nawaz brings pleasant proportions of comic relief. The dialogs of Raees are going to stay with people for a long time. If you are a Bollywood masala fan, do not miss this.

SRK looks hot … Acts great and deliver❤️ I love the guy but what's wrong with the movie ? Everything .. The stale story and 80s set up .. Crime .. All kind of crap .. Rahul Dholakia – you haven't got a single good movie to your direction credit .. Why and how did you convince SRK to let you play with his huge investment and reputation ??? Seriously ! I wasted 5k on Gold class for shitty story ever told..
