Ragini MMS 2: Film Review

When you watch Ragini MMS 2, you will feel two things – one, a slight chill that fizzles out much before it reaches down your spine, and second, a lot of mirth. Mirth because of the star cast, that primarily comprises non-actors except someone as seasoned as Divya Dutta. Pity that the actress had only so much as a cameo to play in the film. Coming back to the main part of the film, it will be slightly unfair to critique a film that is meant to entice the audience who makes most of the population in Tier 2 cities in the country. The film’s promos had Sunny Leone dancing, mouthing a few lyrics and then doing what she is best at. They said that the film also taps into a new genre of filmmaking, so titled Horrex – Horror + Sex, however, there is neither of the two in the film’s 120-minute runtime.

Sunny Leone’s life is an open book, thanks to the internet. What is appalling is how there is just one aspect about this adult film actress-turned-film actress that everyone wants to talk about. In all honesty, she really seems to be making an effort at getting her ‘act’ right with every film she works on. And she has pretty much carried this one on her shoulders, since there were more disappointments that one could count than the positive points.

Ragini MMS 2 is a film version of its predecessor, only that instead of someone making a MMS there was a film crew shooting the scenes – whatever little was shown. If you like watching Horror films, this won’t give you any more than a few laughable moments. However, if the film does not fall into your genre of films, then the anticipation of something happening will scare you out of your wits. A recently-released Hollywood film was the clear inspiration for this one, except that the exorcism performed seemed too incomplete, simply because the cameraman was unclear of the instructions given to him. From a possessed woman to things falling from various places to gaining flight midway, there was too much happening at once, leading to scattered attention. Wrong move! By the time you reach the end of the film, you realize that the Hollywood inspiration shifted back to a few old Hindi films and a connection to Lord Voldemort’s horcruxes, somewhat.
If you think about the rest of the star cast, you are bound to exclaim at what happened to Sandhya Mridul and Parveen Dabbas. The actual vamp performed a lot better.

Why should you watch this film?
The reasons may seem bleak, but you may want to read this before you go ahead and book your tickets for the show. There is Sunny Leone, a story that could have been written better, and a few hummable songs, including the one from an otherwise despicable pop singer. Of course, there is no intention to hurt any feelings, but truth be told.
