Verdict: A thriller drama that will make the patriot in you proud.
After the critically acclaimed Aamir and No One Killed Jessica, director Raj Kumar Gupta is back with another film of a similar genre. Raid stars Ajay Devgn, Ileana D'Cruz and Saurabh Shukla in the lead roles and is based on the story of an honest Income Tax officer who fearlessly went on to carry a raid in the house of an extremely powerful politician.
What's Raid About:
Set in the 80s, the movie revolves around an Income Tax officer Amay Patnaik (Ajay Devgn) who has been transferred 49 times in a span of seven years. He is married to Nita (Ileana D'Cruz) who is a courageous and supporting wife. After being transferred to Lucknow, Patnaik comes to know about a high profile politician who might possess some amount of black money. Following the lead and his own research, he raids the mansion of the most powerful man in Lucknow.
Now, if he finds the money, this could be the biggest recovery of black money ever, and if he is wrong then he might lose his job and a lot more.
After watching the first half and knowing that it is based on a real story makes everything about the movie uber cool. The first half of the movie is terrific and sets up the plot very well. Ajay Devgn as a no-nonsense, extremely honest and a proud officer is perfect and no one else could've pulled this off so convincingly. His honesty may even make you irate sometimes. If only every officer was like him, the world would become so much better.
Ileana D'cruz plays the wife of an IT officer with ease and her portrayal of courage definitely makes the movie more enjoyable. Saurabh Shukla as Tau ji or Rameshwar Singh is just natural. The mannerisms and dialect of a Lucknowi Baahubali suit him too. The casting of the movie is on point. Apart from the leads, even the supporting characters, especially the funny ones, have done a great job at keeping the viewers engaged and getting them to crack up.
The movie has been executed very well. The entire two hours and eight minutes of the movie are about a raid, which has the full potential of becoming boring and mundane. But the verbal duels between the leads, comic timing of the supporting characters and a few heavy dialogues placed at the right intervals of time have made this movie more entertaining than one would expect. The second half of the movie is comparatively slower but all the money involved is going to keep your eyes hooked on to the screen for sure.
What Could Have Been Better:
The entire movie is about an elaborate raid and the movie could have been a little crisper in order to make it an edgy crime drama.
Why You Should Watch This Movie:
The movie is based on a real story about an honest officer and it is just the thought of honesty being real makes you feel great. Ajay Devgn and Saurabh Shukla fans don't need to read this part of the review. Watch the movie to feed the patriot in you with good vibes and positivity. We strongly recommend you to watch this movie in theatres and leave the theatres with a feel-good smirk on your face.
