Rajaratha: Film Review – The Bhandari Brothers Have Done It Again!

Verdict: Nirup Bhandari’s flamboyance will sweep you off your feet.

Nirup Bhandari and director Anup Bhandari have teamed up once more, after their enormous success with Rangitaranga, to deliver yet another masterpiece with Rajaratha. We have Avantika Shetty and Nirup as the main characters, alongside Vinaya Prasad and Ravishankar. It is, however, Puneeth Rajkumar’s voice-over you need to look out for. After the colossal success of Rangitaranga, the Bhandari brothers have stepped up their game to deliver this exciting film.

What’s Rajaratha About:

A charming young man named Abhi (Nirup Bhandari) boards a bus called Rajaratha from Rigalore to Chennai. On board, he meets Megha (Avantika Shetty) – a pretty, outspoken girl he develops a crush on. Along the journey, they meet various other passengers with unique characteristics. Meanwhile, there is Vishwa (Arya), a young leader from a ruling party, who advocates non-violence for his political agenda. The movie has two contrasting story-lines, which are interlinked. On one side, there is a budding love story, and on the other, a serious political agenda.

What Works:

The biggest attraction, as mentioned before, is Puneeth Rajkumar’s voiceover for an inanimate object, which is the bus, also called 'Rajaratha'. Nirup Bhandari’s performance was the also one of the highlights of the film. His character oozes with talent and excitement. The suspense, although much delayed, made it an engaging and interesting watch. The antagonist played by Arya adds an eerie vibe to the film. Add these ingredients with some good cinematography and catchy music numbers, you’ve got yourself a must-watch film.

What Could Have Been Better:

The love story tends to be longer than what the audience expects, while the other intense portions are cut short. The film has an interesting screenplay and the maker could have done a better job with the interlinking of the two parallel story-lines.

Why You Should Watch:

Rajaratha is a soup of different messages, such as political conspiracies and mind-games, interlinked with a breezy love story, and packed with a handful of suspense. Don't be overwhelmed. This film is a delight to watch, especially given how the director has managed to entwine the two plots seamlessly together to deliver an outstanding movie.
