Neerja and M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story are the two biopics that worked in Bollywood this year. And now, in the last two months of 2016, all eyes are on Dangal, the Aamir Khan film that’s based on the life of Mahavir Phogat. Next year, too, will have its air share of biopics and the most highly-anticipated one amongst them is Rajkumar Hirani's movie on Sanjay Dutt. The PK director is very close to the actor and decided to work on the biopic instead of the third installment of the Munnabhai series.
Ranbir Kapoor was confirmed to play Dutt as soon as the film was announced. The Ae Dil Hai Mushkil star will have to grow his hair and workout rigorously in order to look the part. There was speculation about the actresses of the film and now it is official that Sonam Kapoor is a part of the biopic. She reportedly plays the role of Madhuri Dixit, who dated Dutt in the 90s. Their relationship went kaput as Sanjay got involved in multiple criminal cases. While his films, affairs, and marriages will be talked about in the biopic, the jail term and controversies may not make the cut. Anushka Sharma is also supposed to have signed the film and will be seen as a journalist.
The shooting for Sanjay Dutt’s biopic begins in January 2017 and the movie should hit theatres around Christmas next year. Kapoor has already allotted his dates for the project and is hitting the gym almost every second day. Recently, Manyata Dutt posted a picture of the biopic team which included Rajkumar Hirani, Ranbir Kapoor, and Vicky Kaushal. So, by the looks of it, everyone associated with the film is all geared up to start work on it.
