Bollywood filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has given us some fine movies that include Rang De Basanti, Delhi-6 and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, each of which went on to acquire a cult status. After having taken two years to complete, the writer-director’s latest, Mirzya, is set to hit theaters this October.
It was only in the last month when we saw the trailer of the romantic saga and we were smitten, weren’t we? While the film has already drawn positive reviews for its stunning, extravagant trailer, let us take a quick look at reasons we’re looking forward to the film:
Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Direction
Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra revealed in an interview that he first saw the Mirza-Sahiban story in a college play about 30 years ago and has waited ever since to tell this story. Being one of the few love stories in which the heroine sacrifices, its treatment is supposedly different.
Harshvardhan Kapoor’s Debut
Actor Anil Kapoor’s son, Harshvardhan Kapoor, is set to make his Bollywood debut with Mehra’s period drama, in which he plays the titular role. Apparently, he has undergone elaborate training in order to do justice to the character he plays.
Gulzar Sahab has written a script after 15 years, his last being Hu Tu Tu. He has adapted the Mirza-Sahiban folktale and brought in elements of classic storytelling to a setting that is contemporary.
Mirzya will capture the grandeur of locations around Rajasthan and Ladakh. The regal palaces and picturesque locations, leave us spellbound.
The film’s soundtrack has been composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. With a folk touch to it, this one is going to be an unusual journey.
On the director’s 53rd birthday, we wish him luck with his latest venture.
