Music is inherently divine and when the right notes are hit for a social cause, the divinity quotient goes a notch higher. This is what Rehmatein 3 was all about; a musical evening in aid of the musical fraternity. The conceptual enormity of this charity concert was enough to bring a lot of music aficionados together yesterday at the iconic Shanmukhanada Hall, Sion. The earlier two seasons of Rehmatein saw huge financial support dedicated towards legendary musicians like Khayyam and Rajendra Mehta and insurance policies for over 40 music artists.
The third season of Rehmatein 3 that took place yesterday, a joint endeavor of Sangeetam Charitable Trust and E-Bizz Entertainmentbrought together renowned singers like Leslie Lewis, Babul Supriyo, Javed Ali and Ankit Tiwari. Hosted by RJ Dilip of 92.7 Big FM, the event started off as a beautiful journey to the 90s as Leslie Lewis of Colonial Cousins weaved magic on stage singing popular numbers like Krishna, Sa Ni Dha Pa followed by Kai Zhala, Pari Hoon Main and ended his performance with KK’s Pal, engaging with the audience throughout like a true rock star.

The next performer for the evening, Javed Ali mesmerized the audiences with his soulful voice as he sang his own tracks like Jashn-e-Bahar, Tu Jo Mila, EK Din as well as classics and Sufi numbers including the Yaman Raaga and a popular Mehdi Hasan number. Truly, an all-rounder, Javed Ali totally won all hearts, especially with the breathtaking alaap that he sang at the end. This thunderous performance was greeted by a standing ovation and loud applause from the audience. After Javed Ali’s power-packed performance, the next in line was Babul Supriyo, currently the Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprise. The singer-turned-politician not only impressed audiences with his renditions of old classics but also with his street-smart jokes on politics and Bollywood in general. Every line by Babul Supriyo met with loud claps and laughter from the audience.

Last but not the least, Ankit Tiwari performed like a star. The anthem maker and the voice behind soulful romantic numbers like Galliyan and Sun Raha Hai Na kept expressing his gratitude to Rehmatein 3 for inviting him over for such a divine cause. The event concluded with the felicitation of all the yesteryear musicians chosen for Rehmatein 3’s social cause. This included renowned musicians like Madanji, Zaid Hussain, Parambeer Pawar, Uday Shankar and Amrit Katkar whose music you might remember for ages but faces you will never recognize.
