He’s back and how! This season the coffee got steamier and with it, Karan’s wit leverages furthermore. The new season has the host back with even more controversial questions down his kitty. A promotional music video for the fourth season had him shake a leg and hint at the storm of gossip that was due to come our way. The man whose genre of films have remained unaltered for nearly 2 decades came back to charm the television screen audience yet again!
Karan Johar’s show was expected to have Shah Rukh Khan open the fourth season. After rumors doing the rounds, the show premiered on December 1, 2013 with actor Salman Khan and his father, writer Salim Khan on the coveted couch. Koffee with Karan always has the host speak about the big elephant in the room sooner or later in some segment. So, while the stars with practiced politically correct answers try to dodge the volley of questions, Karan always has the key to the backdoor. Salman Khan’s episode had the guest speak about his equation with father Salim Khan, his brush with the Indian judiciary and the juiciest of all, the actor’s marital status. The conversation which initially started clean, ended up circling around Salman’s virginity talks.
In one of the episodes actor Anushka Sharma who appeared with her Bombay Velvet director Anurag Kashyap stated loud about the show making her feel naked. Such is KJo’s testament to the brand of the talk show that he started in 2004. The audience consumes their stars being up, close and personal and soon the target rating points were seen picking up. After the first episode which opened doors for ‘Salman Khan virginity jokes’, the stars kept coming and the conversations became more intimate. Sibling-duo Kareena and Ranbir Kapoor graced the couch with Katrina’s association to Ranbir being hugely spoken of. Ranbir in his element, casually shrugged off by suggesting the Ibiza tourism to share profits with him for the humongous publicity the tourist spot has been receiving post the paparazzi culture that had the actor captured.
The season which is going steady has witnessed some of Bollywood’s intelligent actors and directors on the show. Aamir Khan with wife Kiran Rao was among the early birds to make an entry. Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor who were seen sharing a bromantic equation on the show were charming and kept the audience entertained. Karan Johar’s protégés, the students, spoke about life post the big Bollywood debut. In a new segment called the Koffee quiz, the guests are given buzzers which they press to answer a question open-fired by KJo. The winner walks home with a takeaway from Karan. The other segments of the show are the usual rapid fire round where the actors are in a fix often because of the controversy created around them.
Bollywood divas Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone, who, earlier this year were seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram–leela made an appearance together on the show. Vidya Balan and Farhan Akhtar promoted their film on this platform with both being asked about the side effects of their married life. Akshay Kumar, who did a solo came unabashed in his debut at the show which seemed good competition for Karan who was at the receiving end this time. Mahesh Bhatt and nephew Emraan Hashmi, Sonakshi Sinha with co-actor Shahid Kapoor and director-actor Farah Khan with Abhishek Bachchan were others among the list of invitees on Karan’s couch.
The actors who during their time in the industry were seen to be at loggerheads walked in together this time to promote their film, Gulaab Gang. Juhi Chawla and Madhuri Dixit-Nene were poised and composed while they spoke about their times and how the industry functioned then.
The show didn’t miss having actor Frieda Pinto who, considers Hollywood her home but asserts having an Indi connect. Nargis Fakhri, two films old was seen speaking about life before films. Among the new entrants on Koffee with Karan were Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur who kept Karan’s attempt at questions about their relationship at bay. Most recently, first cousins Kajol and Ayan Mukherjee bonded over coffee and memories from their past. The show also had Kajol speak about her sibling Tanisha Mukherjee’s equation with Bigg Boss house contestant Armaan Kohli.
Koffee with Karan Season 4 has seen a new wave, apart from the production design on this show. With the celebrities being more armed to take the tricky questions about their personal life, Karan’s coffee beans are seen to evolve stronger and the forthcoming episodes promise more unfiltered entertainment. So while the stars polish their oratory skills, take a backseat and grab your steaming cup of Koffee!
