Roar: Tigers of the Sundarbans: Film Review – Doesn’t roar, just meows

The tiger, our national animal, a regal depiction of fury, strength, wonder, terrible beauty. Also known as Panthera Tigris, this wonderful creature has been hunted to near extinction and pushed deep into small nature reserves. So the plight of the tiger is bleak and gray. However, there are times when the tiger’s story gets the publicity it deserves. That’s through film. And Roar: Tigers of the Sundarbans is one of them. Before you roll your eyes and say, "What does this film bring to the forefront?”, just think, when was the last time we saw a mainstream or semi-mainstream film in Bollywood showcase the tiger? Kamal Sadanah‘s film isn’t the best creature movie out there, but it’s a start.

The movie revolves around revenge, tigers and their plight. On the whole, the film starts off slow and retains that pace. You might even stare at your watch, wondering how time has slowed down. But never fret, the tiger makes up for it. It stars a very cool tiger. Yes, this feline has some serious acting chops, literally. You will root for this big cat. The script is a little loose, to say the least. The most you can say is that the script just serves a device to bring the tiger to the forefront. The cast consists of Abhinav Shukla, Himarasha V, Achint Kaur, Subrat Dutta and Varinder Singh Ghuman, to name a few. They go through the motions, but you are left feeling that they could have connected more with the necessary emotions. On the whole, they try. It just takes a little getting used to.

Now, on to the main act: the tiger. You will be stunned as to how well the tiger performs. In fact, all the tiger’s scenes in the film are fun to watch, mainly because it is one of the few times that VFX in a Bollywood film have stepped up.
You need to stay till the end to figure out how they did it. When the end credits roll, you get to see how it is done. And before you wonder about it, the Animal Welfare Board of India have certified that no animals have been harmed or put in harms way during the course of the making of this movie.

The score and the music are wonderful, they tie the dull portions of the movie together. All thanks to John Stewart Enduri and Dr. Resul Pookutty (yup, the Academy Award winner), the sound of the film is inimitable. Each roar resonates through the theatre. Overall, however, the movie still lags. You are left wondering what the point of a revenge story is. In the grand scheme of things, you will disregard this and just watch it for the special effects.

Why should you watch this movie
The tiger! Need we say any more? Okay, you should watch it because it is one of those few Bollywood films that have attempted to be a creature-thriller like some Hollywood films. You will groan in certain places, but you will grin when the tiger starts to prowl. In the end, it is a film that has been made with passion and care. It just falls short in certain elements. The movie is good for a weekend watch with friends.

First, i want to ask a question. Why most of people like Hollywood movies?? For their Super fitted Screenplay, Good Story line and Excellent visual effects. If Yes, then just go and Spend your hard earned money on this movie. Really, a good effort to make in Hollywood style, Best Visual Effects. I bet you if you’ll bore even for 1 second. Kamal Sadanah, the actor becomes director, made some scenes really Awesome. Just see the ‘Snakes Chasing scene’ after Intermission. Gives a message also in last with wonderful Background Music.
