At the end of Roy, a famous film director named Kabir Grewal is heading to the success party of his latest release Guns III. He pauses and exclaims: Pata nahin yeh film kaise ban gayi? My sentiments exactly. I watched and wondered: how do films like Roy get made?
Roy is a painfully affected and spectacularly tedious drama about a filmmaker, his struggle to create and his love affair with another director. In an interview, Vikramjit Singh, who wrote and directed Roy, said that he was inspired by the love affair between Quentin Tarantino and Sofia Coppola. He also added that his stars Arjun Rampal and Jacqueline Fernandez were reading up on the two directors to get into their characters. Which of course only makes Roy more unintentionally funny than it is.
