Samantha, along with Naga Chaitanya, made a special appearance in the Tamil remake of the same movie titled Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, which was shot simultaneously with the Telugu film.
She then went on to do more movies in 2010 like the Tamil film Baana Kaathadi directed by Badri Venkatesh and the Telugu film Brindaavanam directed by Vamsi Paidipally in which Samantha shared screen space with Jr. NTR and Kajal Aggarwal. These films did fairly well at the box-office but they were not Ye Maaya Chesave, a film that made her instantly popular and well-loved. Samantha then acted in the 2011 Mahesh Babu starrer Dookudu which was a blockbuster hit.
In 2012, she starred in the film Eega, which starred Kiccha Sudeep and Nani as well. The film was directed by SS Rajamouli was the only Telugu film to be considered to be sent out as India’s official entry Oscar Academy Awards in 2012 in the best foreign language category but it lost to the Hindi film Barfi.
Her other films include Yeto Vellipoyindhi Manasu opposite Nani, Neethaane En Ponvasantham opposite Jiiva, Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu (2013) opposite the superstars Venky and Mahesh Babu. She won the Filmfare Award for Eega and Neethane En Ponvasantham in the same year.
In 2014, she starred in the film Manam, which saw three generations of the Akkineni family come together on-screen. This was also the film that paired Naga Chaitanya and Samantha for the second time after Ye Maaya Chesave. This film saw some amazing chemistry between the pair. These two good-looking people went on to act together in another movie Autonagar Surya (2014) which may not have done really well at the box-office but it sure did do well for their relationship.
Her 2014 movie Kaththi opposite Ilayath
The year 2016 can be considered her year, with back to back super hit movies like Vijay’s Theri, Suriya’s 24, Jr. NTR starrer Janatha Garage and the Trivikram directed A Aa also starring Nithiin, Samantha was the most successful actress of 2016.
Her upcoming movie Raju Gari Gadhi 2 is the sequel to the 2015 horror movie Raju Gari Gadhi.
With not many strong female-centric films in the south, Samantha is one such actress who questions it openly via her Twitter and other platforms. She has never shied away from speaking her mind and urges the other actresses to do the same and not settle for being mere arm candy.
From having no filmy background to having established herself as one fine actress that South Indian cinema can be proud of, Samantha Ruth Prabhu has come a long way.
Here's wishing the beautiful and talented actress, who probably broke many hearts with her engagement announcement, a very happy birthday!
