Since "Taare Zameen Par" plenty of children centric films have mushroomed hoping to have the same effect or success. Unfortunately for the Indian audience, most of them have failed miserably. As for “Satrangee Parachute” one major issue is that it can’t decide if it’s meant for the kids or adults. In fact it hangs in that infinite space in between. Not fast enough for the kids and not interesting enough for adults. Hence neither will enjoy it much.
Pappu and Kuhu are best friends. They are part of a naughty gang of kids living in Nainital. Pappu is the curious one who keeps running away from hope to explore the sights and sounds of the city. Kuhu is visually impaired. But Pappu and gang make sure they make every effort to keep her happy. One of their ideas include gifting her a parachute so she can fly. Uptill here it’s endearing enough but it quickly goes south thereafter. The kids meet a bunch of terrorists while looking for a parachute in Mumbai. Subsequently they help the police foil a terrorist attack. Apart from wasting a good idea, some talented stars have also been wasted.
Despite some good performances, good music and good cinematography; the film makes a mess of itself by introducing the terrorist angle. A blind child with some caring friends was premise enough. The fact that her peers understand what her parents cannot could have been explored more. If it is indeed meant for kids, one should definitely not assume that they will buy any story you throw at them. It’s time we come up with cinema which is at par with their ever growing intellect.
