So why is Aamir Khan’s latest film called Secret Superstar? Well, that’s because it showcases the journey of an internet sensation whose identity is kept under wraps. The young girl aspires to be a singer but her father is dead against her choice of career. Now it is up to her mother to help her make her dreams come true. The lead character is played Zaira Wasim who was seen as the young Geeta Phogat in last year’s blockbuster, Dangal. An interesting fact about her casting is that Advait Chandan wanted Secret Superstar to be her debut film. But Nitesh Tiwari was so impressed by the teenager that he simply refused to drop her from the sports drama.
Aamir Khan plays a quirky musician and is supposed to have taken inspiration from Anu Malik. The actor finished shooting his portions in just 15 days. In the movie, he plays a reality TV show judge who pushes Zaira’s character to achieve her goals. The actor loved the script and wanted to do the role but his wife Kiran Rao and the director were not convinced. Once he underwent the transformation and his hair and outfits were worked upon, the two had no doubt that Khan was best suited as Shakti Kumaarr. You can have a look at what went into the making of the character in the video below.
Since the movie is based on an aspiring musician, most of the Secret Superstar songs are crooned by one person. Meghna Mishra has sung Main Kaun Hoon, Meri Pyari Ammi, Sapne Re, and Nachdi Phira. Besides these, the Secret Superstar album has two more tracks – one by Mika Singh and the other by Kushal Chokshi. The score has been composed by Amit Trivedi, which is a surprise choice as Aamir Khan generally works with Ram Sampath or Pritam.
