Verdict: Bollywood may get its new Raj from Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana.
Adding a hint of realism is the new thing in Bollywood love stories and Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana is another addition to the list. With Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Kharbanda in lead roles, the movie has been directed by Ratnaa Sinha.
What's Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana About?
The story revolves around two families – the Mishras and the Shuklas. Aarti Shukla (Kriti Kharbanda) and Sachendra Mishra aka Sattu (Rajkummar Rao) meet for a proposed arranged marriage and start liking each other from their first meeting. They fall in love and eagerly wait to get married. But on the day of their marriage, Aarti runs away leaving Sachendra heartbroken. After 5 years, they meet again where Sachendra is an IAS officer and Aarti is a PCS officer who is framed for a crime she didn't commit.
The story has a very realistic touch. Two families getting together for a marriage and everything falls apart because of the unexpected turn of events. The movie shows two middle-class families and their daily challenges – a conservative father, a submissive mother, a loving elder sister and an ambitious girl who wants to be more than just a housewife. The movie is relatable for every middle-class person in the country.
Rajkumaar Rao, like always, has taken his character to a level where you cannot imagine anyone else as Sattu. In different parts of the movie, he is angry, in love, sad, miserable and creepy, and has carried it off with so much conviction. Kriti Kharbanda has a great screen presence and complements Rao while they share the screen. She looks stunning and is an impressive actor. There are many supporting characters and they are very well etched. The movie scores full marks on performances. You'll feel for each and every character in the movie.
The songs are hummable and are rightly placed in the movie. The first half is fast, sweet and happy. It gets your expectations high and the second half delivers equally.
What Could Have Been Better:
The story feels a little stretched in the second half compared to the fast-paced love story of the first half and the story sometimes gets predictable. But the ups and downs in the lives of two lovers keep you hooked, wanting them to reunite.
Why You Should Watch This Movie:
If you are a hopeless romantic who likes love stories that indulge in pure Bollywood kinda love then this movie is for you. You'll feel for both the characters throughout the movie. Rajkummar Rao fans do not need a reason to watch this movie. All the actors have done a terrific job. We highly recommend you to watch this movie this weekend.
