Shor in the City: Makes the right amount of noise

Hindi film industry has transformed immensely in the past few years. From the archetypal song and dance routine to the more thought-provoking movies; Hindi film industry has made a 360 degree turn. "Shor in the City" is testament to that fact.

The film has already garnered rave reviews and won a couple of awards in the film festival circuit. However, such films in the past have faltered at the box office even after generating good reviews internationally.

So does Shor manage to enthrall the audiences? Well, up to a certain extent it surely does.

"Shor in the City" is based on three stories with Mumbai as the backdrop. The best thing about the movie is that the stories do not run separately. The user is thus treated to three stories running simultaneously without affecting the other. In fact the characters do not meet each other or interact until the very end.

Instead of a montage of the slums and suburbs; Directors Raj Nidimoru and Krishna Dk have opted for an innovative introduction of Mumbai (Read: Camera following the bike).

The movie spans across a period of 11 days of the Ganeshotsav festival.

First Story:

Tushar Kapoor is an honest but a local ruffian who pulls of petty scams with his friends Ramesh [Nikhil Dwivedi] and Mandook [Pitobash]. His relationship with his wife has been handled beautifully by the Director. However, his story takes an unruly turn when his friends Ramesh and Mandook steal a bag on a local train.

Second Story:

Abhay [Sendhil Ramamurthy], an NRI comes to India to set up a small scale business where he meets Sharmila (Preeti Desai) a model. However, he soon learns that you need to pay small-time criminals to set up a business in India.

Third Story:

Sawan (Sundeep Kishan) harbors the dream of entering the Mumbai Junior Cricket team. However, he learns that bribing the selectors is more important than playing good cricket. He needs to find a large amount of money as soon as possible to make it to the team.

Thus, all the characters have to deal with their problems to get a better future; which is the story of most of them living in Mumbai. You will have to watch the movie to find out if their stories have a happy or bitter end.

In addition to the crisp dialogues and tight screenplay, Shor in the City stands out because of its superlative performances. Tusshar’s performance in Shor is better than his goofy character in Golmaal. All the other actors namely, Nikhil Dwivedi, Pitobash, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Radhika Apte, Preeti Desai and Girija Oak have enacted their parts well. Shor also boasts of a superb soundtrack which features the already famous song Saibo sung by Shreya Ghosal and Tochi Raina.

On the whole "Shor in the City", though not extra-ordinary, surely deserves applause for its hatke treatment and gripping parallel stories. A Must watch!!
