Neeraj Pandey strikes yet again. His latest offering Ouch, in the form of a short film, starring Manoj Bajpayee, takes on the subject of a mid-life crisis. When you know Pandey is in charge, he is going to deliver. Bajpayee is just an icing on the cake. The 15-minute-long dark comedy turns the table on the man-woman equation through a tongue-in-cheek moment when the two leading protagonists get involved in an extramarital affair.
For the first few minutes, everything is kept under wraps and you have no clue as to what is happening. Pandey slowly peels off the layers one at a time to conclude a hilarious climax.
The film starts off with the Gangs of Wasseypur star, Bajpayee (Vinay) stuttering through the lobby of a what seems like a five-star hotel. The middle-aged playboy seems nervous as he enters the hotel suite desperately hoping for an assurance of some kind. Enter Pooja Chopra (Priya), his mistress, the one above all. Sniveling and with tears in her eyes, Vinay embraces her. To this point, it’s pretty clear that they both had decided upon leaving their mundane married life and kick something off on a fresh note. But wait! There’s twist, which obviously is a spoiler and hence we won't be indulging in it.
The beauty of the film is its simplicity. All you need is a room and two good actors to make things tick for a good film. Pandey is an experienced artist and Bajpayee is no less. Had it been for a lesser known actor, things may have fallen flat. As for Pooja Chopra, she is drop-dead gorgeous. But don’t let that fool you into thinking she can't act well. She plays her part to perfection but Bajpayee takes the center stage. His casual, hunk-like demeanor bursts frantically when things go awry, resulting in 10-minutes of pure comedy. Spare 15 minutes of your precious time and do give it watch. You won't be disappointed.
