Shourya: Film Review – Love In The Midst Of Twists And Turns

Verdict: A breezy romantic thriller!

Thrillers have an advantage of making the viewers sit on the edge of their seats and give them a heightened feeling of anxiety and entertainment. K. Dasaradh, a well-known director to Telugu audiences, who has made family entertainers like Santosham and Mr. Perfect has joined hands with Manoj for the second time, with a completely new genre after their previous debacle, Sri. Let’s get into the nuances of this thrilling love story and see if it has captivated the pulse of audience.

Shourya still - BookMyShow

Movie starts with Shourya (Manchu Manoj) helping his friend get a 300-crore project and surprisingly opting out of it himself, for the reason of love. Shourya and Nethra (Regina Cassandra) choose to leave the country, as Nethra’s family does not accept their inter-caste relationship. One last wish that Nethra has before leaving the country is to spend a night in her village , the one where she spent her childhood. The first twist unfolds here, in the tenth minute of the movie, and what follows from this twist has to be seen on the big screen.

The basic plot of Shourya is so intriguing that it keeps the viewers glued to their seats until the last minute. Manchu Manoj as Shourya has put on extra weight to get into the skin of the character and carry out his role seamlessly. He looks more mature as an actor and has grown by leaps and bounds. Regina has become more glamorous and gave her best for her role as Nethra. Prakash Raj as the investigating police officer is a perfect fit for his character. Subba Raju is good in the role of an antagonist. Prabhas Srinu has got a meaty role as brother-in-law of Nethra and had the theater in splits. Brahmanandam, Prabhas Srinu, Shakalaka Shankar and Shiva Reddy excelled in the comedy department. Sayaji Shinde, Nagineedu and other supporting cast though gave mediocre performances, by comparison.

On the technical front, special kudos to Gopi Mohan for providing a wonderful screenplay and dialogues. Dasaradh has done justice to the script and one can see his touch in several scenes of the movie. Music by Veda is decent. Songs are melodious, though the background score is average. The placement of songs is the big negative point in this two-hour thriller. Cinematography and production values, too, could have been better. Given the budget of the movie, one can expect this movie to come out as a winner for its uniqueness in script and screenplay.

Why You Should Watch This Movie:

If you are a fan of the romantic thriller genre, this one is for you. Shourya succeeds in providing entertainment in a unique way, with thrills and frills!
