SIFFCY – India’s Only Children’s Film Festival Is Back

Movies are so much more than entertainment. Not only are they visually compelling, but the narrative can often be educational. The kind that gives you a glimpse at the socio-political realities of the world we live in. Good movies leave you with a lingering sense of doubt, of curiosity. It makes you ponder over its meaning long after the credits have rolled. If from a young age children are exposed to the brilliance of movies, in the long run the effect can be nothing but beneficial.

It’s this very notion that the Smile International Film Festival for Children and Youth chooses to capitalize on. As the name suggest, this film festival is unlike any other with their main focus being youth and children. In fact, it is India’s only children’s film festival. The SIFFCY had its first stint last year, and this year it’s back again, with an assortment of over hundred films from across the globe. Various children’s movies will be screened at this festival, specially handpicked by The Jury and The Advisers from a sea of films produced around the world.

International films, both feature and non-feature as well as shorts and documentaries will be screened at SIFFCY. These movies come from a widely spread geographical locale that includes Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Canada, Russia, South Korea, Brazil as well as movies made here in India.

Apart from this there will also be a special screening of four films at what is being termed as the Yellow Carpet. An attractive change from the traditional Red Carpet that is found at most film festivals.

On the Advisers panel you’ll find who’s who from the Bollywood film fraternity. The list includes names like Nagesh Kukunoor, best known for movies like Dor, Iqbal and Hyderabad Blues. The award winning director and dialogue writer Tigmanshu Dhulia whose words were immortalized on the big screen in movies like Dil Se. As well as names like Santosh Sivan, Jahnu Barua, Resul Pookutty and Hansal Mehta.

Apart from screening movies, workshops on film making, art design and storytelling will also be conducted.
