Sonam Kapoor’s Style File: On and Off-Screen

What is it that this style icon hasn’t tried and nailed? Gowns – check. Lehengas – check. Pantsuits – check. One-sleeved blouse, cape kurti, turtleneck choli -check, check, check. Ear-cuffs became a rage and statement nose rings came back into vogue, thanks to this trendsetting B-towner. She turns heads wherever she goes and makes an effortless statement with everything she sports. With a sweet mix of a desi charm and a global panache, Sonam Kapoor is easily Bollywood’s most-stylish sweetheart.

While in Aisha, she juggled luxury labels, thereby making Lady Dior a household name, in Raanjhana, she effortlessly channelled the desi girl-next-door.

Never one to shy away from experimenting, Kapoor is always dressed to the nines. Just because she’s enjoying a private dinner at Hakkasan or attending a movie screening in Juhu doesn’t mean she won’t be spotted in a Dolce and Gabbana. After all, you don’t need a place or reason to look good, do you?

And there’s no denying that there are times when we spot a visual overload or an unflattering silhouette, but all our nitpicking usually ends by something that goes like “Oh what the hell! She makes it work only the way she can!” Because, really, who else can pull-off these looks the way she has:

A lot of her off-screen style and taste in fashion has reflected in her movies. After Aisha, where she was bang-on with the character of an upper-class, stylish Delhi girl, her upcoming film, Bewakoofiyaan features her young and hip sense of style. The film also marks her on-screen bikini debut, although once again, it’s nothing that we haven’t seen before, thanks to some super-chic, high-on-fashion editorial shoots that the actress has done in the past.

And while we’re all for high-waist pants and peplums, let’s not forget how she has effortlessly managed to portray the small-town belle in many of her films. She shines in the simplest of traditional attires on-screen in the same way she rocks an Alexander McQueen on the Red Carpet. From Delhi 6 to I Hate Luv Storys, Aisha to Raanjhana, Sonam always manages to get it right, and for that, let’s take a moment to bow down to her stylists as well.

Off-screen, we can’t think of anything that our elegant fashionista hasn’t tried. However, this in no way implies that we’re bored of her looks. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Thanks to Sonam persistently pushing the envelope and raising the style stakes in Bollywood and beyond, we’re always waiting for more (you don’t just top Cosmo’s best-dressed list for three years in a row for nothing!). And this is one lady who hardly ceases to surprise. Constantly changing it up, Sonam’s always one to watch out for on the fashion scene.

And while Sonam will tell you in every interview that she doesn’t take herself too seriously, we certainly do. This girl knows how to have fun with fashion and with her appearances getting fiercer by the day, it’s always interesting to follow her looks.
