Rating: ★★★
Verdict: The celebration album this season!

Farhan Akhtar since his debut as a singer has only been lauded for the good body of work. However with Dil Dhadakne Do there is only partial fulfillment to the commitment that he makes as a singer. The seasoned trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy composes music with expertise flowing from Javed Akhtar’s treasure of words. The album might not deliver with every track but that does not certainly undermine the energy in this celebratory album.

The title track sung by Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar is a stylish rendition with Farhan’s husky voice and Priyanka’s diva style singing. Dil Dhadakne Do is an energy-a spirit-an anthem per se. The lyrics by Javed Akhtar bring out the energy of the title and fuse it with the vocalist’s enthusiasm. All of this works in the song’s favor.

Girl’s Like To Swing though categorically is a chick track but is amazingly energetic with its music. Sunidhi Chauhan has an innate quality of adopting every song she lends her voice to. With this, she adds a sense of dance and rhythm which sets the track apart from all other songs.

The album invokes a half-baked and unfulfilling experience with Pehli Baar in the voice of Sukriti Kakkar and Siddharth Mahadevan. The beats in Pehli Baar are repetitive and fail to spark magic like the first two tracks. Farhan Akhtar, Vishal Dadlani, Divya Kumar and Alyssa Mendosa make Phir Bhi Yeh Zindagi moderately likeable. The problem with Phir Bhi Yeh Zindagi is that all the singers are first rate and yet there is very little of any of their signature styles which make the track chaotic at some level.

The Punjabi offering from Dil Dhadakne Do is an undisputed winner! Gallan Goodiyaan almost balances the loopholes in the album. A loud Hindi-Punjabi fusion track is a perfect toast to the flavor of the film. The song brings all the characters in a party mode and hence the multiple voices. Yashita Sharma, Farhan Akhtar, Shankar Mahadevan, Manish Kumar Tipu and Sukhwinder Singh throw a zestful song of celebration. The timber(ish) sound in Sukhwinder’s vocals however stays much more impactful than any of the other singer’s voices. The songs are available as singles on iTunes and it is best recommended for purchase that way than the entire album.
