The Sound of Music is a movie everyone has seen. It was an integral part of our childhood and the music lives on in our hearts even today. While we have all seen the original movie countless times, not many have had the opportunity to watch this musical on stage – where it is meant to be. But now, you can finally catch the story of the Von Trapps and Fraulein Maria live, when Ace Productions brings The Sound of Music to the NCPA in February. With five shows over three days, this spectacle is unmissable if you've enjoyed the movie.
What’s The Plot:
When a postulant named Maria proves too high-spirited for a religious life, the abbey dispatches her to serve as governess for the seven Von Trapp children. Their father, a widowed naval captain, is a stern man with a no-nonsense attitude. But Maria breathes life back into the lost Von Trapp house with her kind soul and generous spirit. She becomes a friend to the children and slowly finds her way into the Captain’s heart.
Who’s In It:
The Sound of Music for the NCPA has been produced by Raëll Padamsee and directed by Advait Hazarat. Merlyn D’Souza is said to have directed the music, while choreography is handled by Karla Singh and Prince. But it is the cast that will excite you the most! Meher Mistry, who has appeared in Ace Productions’ Jesus Christ Superstar as well as in the stage version of Beauty and the Beast, is set to play Maria, while actor Arunoday Singh will take on the role of the Captain. The lead actors have worked together before, when they appeared in The Threepenny Opera, in November 2017. The rest of the cast includes over 150 actors, dancers, and singers, comprising children from mainstream schools and Raëll Padamsee’s Academy for Creative Expression (ACE) as well as five NGOs – ADAPT, Aseema, Salaam Bombay Foundation, Salaam Baalak Trust, and The Victoria Memorial School for the Blind.
When’s It Happening:
The Sound of Music will take place at Tata Theatre in NCPA from the 23rd to the 25th of February, 2018. The opening day will have just one show, while two shows are slated to take place over the weekends. Tickets have been on sale for a while now and the seats are almost full.
