Yup, you read the title right. Can you believe it? A lot of the actresses down South, who have for years entertained us with their acting and dancing skills on screen, are not really South Indian. Considering the number of movies they have done in the various South film industries and the number of years they have spent in the South of India they are more South Indian than a lot of us. These actresses, some of whom have even made South Indian cities their home, have now fully integrated themselves into the culture, the norms and are even loved and accepted by fans. Here are 5 top South Indian actresses who are not really from the South:

Born and brought up in Mumbai, Tamannaah who was born to Punjabi parents is one of the most sought-after actresses in the South. Tamannaah has some blockbuster movies to her credit like Baahubali: The Beginning (2015), Padikathavan (2009)Ayan (2009), Veeram (2014)Paiyaa (2010) and the recent Tamil movie Devi (L).

Hansika Motwani

Hansika Motwani was born to Sindhi parents and brought up in Mumbai. At the age of 15, Hansika made her film debut as a leading actress in the Telugu movie Desamuduru (2007), which won her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut – South. She played the dual role of Yuvarani Mitravinda Devi and Indira (Indu) in Magadheera which was the biggest blockbuster of all-time in Telugu cinema. She later did the movie Mr. Perfect opposite Prabhas in 2011 which was another blockbuster hit. Soon after, she moved to Bollywood and did two superhit movies – Singham (2011) and Special 26 (2013). In 2012, she appeared in the superhit Tamil movie Thuppaki with Ilayathalapathy Vijay. These movies established her as one of the most sought-after actresses in the Tamil and Telugu film industries. Her upcoming movie is the Chiranjeevi-starrer Khaidi No. 150 which releases in 2017.

Rashi Khanna

She made her Tollywood debut with the movie Oohalu Gusagusalade (2014). She has since then appeared in multistarrer movie Manam (2014), which had the three generations of the Akkineni family together for the first time on the silver screen. Bengal Tiger (2015) opposite Ravi Teja was her other big movie. Recently, she was seen in the movie Hyper opposite Sai Dharam Tej.

Lavanya Tripathi

Born in Uttar Pradesh and brought up in Uttarakhand, Lavanya won the Miss Uttarakhand title in 2006. The charming and pretty actress Lavanya Tripathi debuted in Telugu cinema with the hit Andala Rakshasi (2012). She has back-to-back hits like Bale Bale Magadivoy (2015) with Nani and Soggade Chinni Nayana (2016opposite Telugu superstar Nagarjuna to her credit and this has made her hot property in Tollywood. She will be next seen in the thriller movie Mayavan.
