Male actors have ruled film industries in India for decades, without a doubt. Women have always taken a backseat when it came to helming a project purely on their big crowd-pulling and acting ability. Film industries are all about male superstars and the word superstar is often only associated with male actors, never with female actors. This is not only the case in Bollywood but in south Indian film industries as well. An actor at the age of sixty can romance an actress half his age but if it was the other way round, who will want to see it, eh? Sad but true.
Yes, actresses have been treated differently for years, more focus given to their looks than their acting. However, in the past few years, we can see a change in the way actresses are perceived. With a number of women-oriented movies hitting the big screen and achieving path-breaking success, women have come to play the role of the 'hero'. Bollywood saw some amazing women-centric movies like Neerja (2016), Kahaani (2012), Queen (2014) in these past few years and so did the south cinema. South films like How Old Are You? (2014), Puthiya Niyamam (2016), Amma Kanaku (2016) and many others had female actors playing the lead role. These movies were well-received by audiences and they truly deserve all the success.
With plenty of movies with these lady superstars up this year, we wonder who will emerge to rule 2017 with their splendid performance. Let's have a look at them here:
