World Cup 2015: Records galore for Team India

Defending champions India continued their dream run at the 2015 Cricket World Cup with a comfortable 8-wicket victory over Ireland at Hamilton on Tuesday. It was India’s first match in New Zealand, and the Men in Blue took no time to adapt.

Once again, India kept things under control from start to finish. A number of records were broken as well as created. Here are some interesting statistics from the match that was!
1. Read this once. Read it again. India has bowled out every one of their opponents so far i.e. they have claimed 50 wickets in 5 games! Weak bowling attack, what’s that?
2. Shikhar Dhawan has become the first Indian to score two centuries in this World Cup. With 333 runs in 5 matches, he is also the highest run-getter for India in the tournament and the second-highest overall.
3. MS Dhoni now has 9 successive World Cup wins, the most by an Indian captain. He has surpassed former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly who previously held the record with 8 wins. This also means that India are currently on their longest-ever World Cup winning streak!
4. The 174-run partnership between Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan is India’s highest opening stand in the World Cups. The duo became the fifth Indian pair to put up a century stand in WC. The previous best was that of Ajay Jadeja and Sachin Tendulkar (163) vs Kenya in 1996.
5. This was only the fourth such instance of a team making 70-plus runs during the mandatory powerplay. India scored 73-0 in the first 10 overs, their best in the World Cup.
6. Rohit Sharma became the 14th Indian batsman to score 4000 ODI runs in his career. A little too late for a batsman of his caliber, but he’s done it in style. Sharma also scored his second fifty of the tournament.
7. Southpaw Shikhar Dhawan was dropped twice (5, 10) in his innings of 100 against Ireland. The last time he was dropped (53), Dhawan went on to score a blazing 137 vs South Africa!
