The Hero Indian Super League (ISL) is an unrivalled football championship which has been held in India every year since its inception in 2014. With the motive of uplifting and revolutionising the sport, the ISL is committed to groom the grassloot level talent and elevate the league to the international level. India’s leading tycoons and celebrities from sports as well as the film industry have heavily invested in the league’s eight franchises based in the following cities: Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Guwahati, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune. ISL 2016 has reached its business end as the tournament is at the semi-final stage and four teams have been eliminated out of eight.

Mumbai City FC, Kerala Blasters, Delhi Dynamos and Atletico de Kolkata are the teams (in order of their league position) who have qualified for the semis.

Mumbai City FC have been the most impressive team in the tournament so far; topping the league with 23 points from 14 matches. They have had a very strong squad in form to boast about with players like Defederico, Sony Norde, Indian golden boy Sunil Chhetri and of course their legendary marquee player, Diego Forlan. The Mumbai side has roped in an experienced coach Alexandre Guimaraes, to find their much-needed momentum after two disappointing seasons. They are expected to reach the finals. Kerala Blasters have had an abrupt run this season. After a poor start, the team under Steve Coppell came back strongly to qualify for the semi-finals, finishing second in the league.

Delhi Dynamos on the other side have enjoyed a good time in form this season as they lost just 3 games out of 14. That is probably quite an achievement after the first two seasons which went not so good for the much hyped Delhi team. After leading the charts for a considerable amount of time, Gianluca Zambrotta's team stumbled towards the last few matches of the group stage which eventually resulted in them being placed in number 3 at present. Football lovers can expect a lot of fireworks from the two-legged knock-out matches. Last but not the least, Atletico de Kolkata has now become officially the most successful team in the history of ISL, as they qualified for the semi-finals for three consecutive seasons. No other team in ISL so far has achieved such a feat.
