Four years ago, Chris Gayle scored a daddy hundred against the Kings XI Punjab at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Last night, he scored another swashbuckling century against the same opposition at the same venue. Much co-incidence? As is always the case, Gayle’s magnanimous ton once again found a place in the record books. It may not have surpassed his 2013 heroics against the Pune Warriors India, but it surely was special in its own way. Fans of the West Indian batsman were waiting for that one big innings ever since the tournament began. Their wish was finally granted!

Here are some of the interesting stats from the RCB vs KXIP encounter:

1. Chris Gayle’s 57-ball 117 is the fastest century in this edition of the Indian T20 League. The hundred came off just 46 deliveries.

2. Gayle is now the first overseas player to have scored 3000 runs in the T20 League. Half of these runs have come at the Chinnaswamy. It is no surprise then, that the big Jamaican loves batting at the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s home ground.

3. Gayle also became the first man to hit more than 1500 runs at a single T20 venue.

4. This may come as a surprise, but out of those 57 balls he took for his 117, 19 were dots!

5. Against a hapless KXIP bowling attack, Chris Gayle brought up his 14th century in T20 cricket – the most by any batsman in the world.

6. Royal Challengers Bangalore became the first team to score 100 runs within the first 10 overs twice in this edition of the tournament. Gayle’s exploits with the bat also helped RCB post the highest team total (226) by any team in this season so far.

7. KXIP’s Mitchell Johnson bowled his most expensive over in T20 cricket, giving away 20 runs in a single over, thanks to Gayle’s monstrous hitting. The over read – 4, 0, 6, 6, 4, 0!

8. Throughout his stay at the crease, Chris Gayle was dropped TWICE! KXIP captain George Bailey missed an opportunity in as early as the third over. Another chance went down when Gayle was playing on 53. This time, it was Manan Vohra who dropped a sitter off Axar Patel.

9. Royal Challengers Bangalore registered their biggest victory this season, beating Kings XI Punjab by 138 runs.

10. Chris Gayle scored exactly 100 runs in boundaries – 12 sixes and 7 fours!
