The rain is pouring. As you look out of the window of your office, you see children playing in the rain. Nostalgic memories transport you back to your childhood days. Remember how your friends and you used to have the best time in the park, playing hide-and-seek, kho-kho, gilli-danda and Kabaddi. Getting dirty in kichad never bothered you. Just like Bryan Adams sang, "Those were the best days of (my)your life".

Speaking of Kabaddi, it was fun, holding your breath and chanting kabaddi, kabaddi, kabaddi. Then raiding into the opponent team’s half, determined to tag more than one player. And the struggle to touch the center borderline. But at times, you ended up getting pinned and soaked in the puddles of mud and water.  Sounds fun now, when you visualize it.

Did you know,  just like you had fun in your childhood, some of our superstars had fun playing Kabaddi on their film sets. The game of Kabaddi holds a prominent place in Kollywood and Tollywood. Several Tamil and Telugu films have been released revolving around the sport. Okkadu, Ghilli, Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu, Bheemli Kabadi Jattu, to name a few.

The game of Kabaddi has found a home for itself in Bollywood too. Here are three Hindi movies where the Kabaddi has played a central role in the story.

1. Pardes

This is the ‘Kabaddi-match-swayamwar’ for the bride, Ganga (Mahima Chaudhary). A perfect way to decide the winner. Next time, you have two friends fighting over the same thing, organize a Kabaddi match. Easy decision along with fultoo entertainment.

2. Gori Tere Pyaar Mein

A Kabaddi match can also be an ‘impress-your-sweetheart’ technique. In other words, ruthi girlfriend  ko manana ho, toh play a match  with some professionals and get beaten hollow. Trust us, this trick will definitely work wonders. Even though, it didn’t help Sriram (Imran Khan) win over Dia (Kareena Kapoor) in the movie.

3. Tevar

This movie is yet to be released, but the word is already out that it’s a remake of 2003 Telugu film, Okkadu. It is based on the life of a Kabaddi player, played by Arjun Kapoor.  We’ll also get to see Sonakshi Sinha as the female lead. There will be a Kabaddi night match that will showcase Arjun’s talent as a Kabaddi pro. Let’s wait and watch, what Tevar has to offer!

This sport  has been a part of numerous pop culture references. The 1993 movie Little Buddha starring Keanu Reeves has a scene which depicts the game of Kabaddi.
