The US Open 2015 has come to an end and like every other Grand Slam, it had some good and some not -so-good dramatic moments. There were a few early round casualties, a bit of dancing on the court, and some smashing of racquets. We also had Nick Kyrgios reminding us why we all hate him, and all-time great Roger Federer trying out an all-new shot, interestingly called the SABR (Sneak Attack By Roger). Boris Becker did call the shot disrespectful, but for us viewers that didn’t really matter. So here are the most defining moments of this year’s last Grand Slam:
It was another Djokovic vs Federer final and Novak won again. How often have we seen the Serb get the better of the Swiss legend? Both Roger and Novak played extremely well in their semi-final matches, but the final was pretty one-sided. It now makes us wonder if Roger will ever be able to get past Novak in a Grand Slam final.
Having won this year’s Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon, Serena was aiming for a calendar year Grand Slam at the US Open. All was going well for her, and she even defeated her sister Venus Williams in the quarter-final. Sadly, the semi-final against Italy’s Roberta Vinci didn’t go as planned, and Serena lost the match even after taking the first set.
Double Joy For India
Martina Hingis is proving to be quite lucky for Indian tennis players, Leander Paes and Sania Mirza. Their partnership with the Swiss tennis player has resulted in many Grand Slam victories. The Paes-Hingis pair won this year’s Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open, while Sania clinched the US Open and Wimbledon title with Martina. It couldn’t get better for Indian tennis!
Going into the tournament, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray were clearly expected to make it to the last four. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. Rafael lost to Italian Fabio Fognini in a five setter, despite taking the first two sets. On the other hand, Murray crashed out in the fourth round, losing to Kevin Anderson.
