As if the World T20 didn't provide enough fodder for cricket frenzy people, the Indian Premier League is coming with more crashes, bangs and smashes. The festival of cricket is about to begin. The league is back for its ninth edition and it's going to be bigger and better than before!
Rising from the ashes of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions will make their debut in this all new season of Vivo IPL. They will lock horns with the 6 resident teams, Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knightriders, Kings XI Punjab, Delhi Daredevils, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad. While, Pune Supergiants will be led by our captain cool M.S Dhoni, the Gujarat Lions have Suresh Raina as their leader. Interestingly, both the players have always played for Chennai in IPL. This will be the first time for fans to watch them play for two different teams and that so as captains.
This year a total of Rs. 528 cr is riding on IPL. With such amount of money involved, expectations are bound to soar high. When the players like, Kohli, Gayle, Dhoni, Jos Butler, Shakib Al Hasan and Carlos Brathwaite smashes four and sixes all over the grounds, we craves for more. After finishing the successful ICC World T20, these players are in magnificent form and just be assured that the cricket carnival will just be getting hotter and livelier. Gone are the days when T20 used to be the game for the batsmen. Bowlers like, Shane Watson, Ashish Nehra, Ashwin and Mustafizur Rahman have proved that T20 is not all about fours and sixes.
The franchises over the years have become much more smarter. If we see the teams' composition this time, almost every team is a well balanced squad, at least on paper. All the eight teams have an enviable mix of players, experienced and amateurs. While, The Royal Challengers Bangalore shelled out the biggest amount this year to retain its star cricketer and number one T20 player, Virat Kohli, the cashrich franchise of Mumbai Indians spend big bucks to not let their key players Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard go. The two new entrants also made sure they get the best players of the lot. Pune Supergaints left no stone unturned to get M.S Dhoni as their lead campaigner. Gujarat Lions chose Suresh Raina as their captain.
