Television of the 2000s was very different than what it is today. After an era of Ekta Kapoor’s K-serials, which featured on Star Plus, came in a host of new shows, on a completely new channel. Star One was started with the intention of airing new genres of TV shows, which were different from those on Star Plus. There were comedies, dramas that weren’t too dramatic, reality shows, talent shows, talk shows and many more. Star One suddenly became highly popular and viewers began to enjoy this new wave of television. Here are some of our favorite shows from Star One, which we would like to watch over and over again:
Sarabhai Vs. Sarabhai
This was probably one of the best sitcoms on Indian television. It was funny, relevant, and the characters were simply mind-blowing. Everyone loved it! Thus, when director Deven Bhojani himself announced that the Star One show would be returning as a web series, the news was met with great joy and enthusiasm. We hope the series can live up to its original hype and humor.
Khichdi was a laughter riot, and Instant Khichdi was even funnier. Featuring some of the best actors from the television industry, this show carved a niche for itself. Praful-Hansa were TV’s favorite couple, and even guest stars like Jamnadas Majethia as Himanshu and Aatis
This drama series aired on Star One during its inception. It ran for 51 episodes, but viewers were deeply attracted to the romance brewing in a hotel between an NRI spoilt brat and the general manager. The show starred Amit Varma, who was famous for his role as Raju in Khichdi, and Sonal Sehgal, who was previously seen in Saara Akash.
This was every teenager’s favorite series back in the days. Starring Priya Wal, Raj Singh Arora, Shweta Gulati and Karan Wahi, the series revolved around a group of teens with their typical teenage problems. But the show gave us much more than that. The show featured music by the popular band Aasma, and we were also introduced to words like ‘chillax’ and ‘whacko’.
Kyaa Hoga Nimmo Kaa
KHNK was a soap opera, drama series, and sitcom all rolled into one. It starred Sanjeeda Sheikh as Nimmo, and Eijaz Khan as Kunal, her love interest. The theme of the series revolved around the story of Cinderella, but it was enjoyed by viewers of all ages. The show also starred Jennifer Winget, Anas Rashid, Dara Singh and Dolly Thakore.
The Great Indian Laughter Challenge
The first stand-up show on Indian television, Star One produced one of the most successful reality shows with the Laughter Challenge. It gave us many popular comedians like Sunil Pal, Raju Srivastava, Ehsaan Qureshi, Naveen Prabhakar, Sudesh Lahiri and more. Even Kapil Sharma is an alumni of this comedy show.
