We are all living our versions of a new normal and watching the world come to a standstill. While this is certainly not something we could have ever imagined, here we are. Our current situation almost feels like a new dystopian world that’s on the brink of an apocalypse. So we thought we would bring to you a list of movies that are set in dystopian worlds. The Hunger Games Franchise

This four-part movie series is based on novels by the same name. These films star an ensemble cast featuring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, and Elizabeth Banks to name a few. The story follows a post-apocalyptic future where a boy and a girl must be chosen from each district as a “tribute” and sent to the Capitol of the dictatorial government. These tributes are then forced to fight unto death in The Hunger Games.

Blade Runner Franchise

There are two movies under this banner – the first was released in 1982 and the second one was released 30 years later in 2017. These movies deal with the dystopian future of Los Angeles where synthetic humans known as “replicants” are being created by the powerful Tyrell Corporation.

Snowpiercer

Directed by Bong Joon-ho, this film stars Chris Evans in the lead role. The movie takes place aboard the Snowpiercer train, which is carrying the last remnants of humanity after a failed climate-change experiment wipes out the rest of the world. The story follows Chris Evans who is a member of the lower-class and they are seated at the tail-end of the train. He and the other passengers decide to rebel against the elite seated at the front of the train.

V for Vendetta

This is a dystopian political thriller where the United Kingdom is ruled by a fascist and totalitarian regime. This movie follows V (Hugo Weaving), an anarchist and masked freedom fighter who attempts to ignite revolutions with the help of a young girl played by Natalie Portman.

Children Of Men

This film is set in a chaotic world where human beings are on the brink of extinction due to two decades of infertility. The story follows a former activist who agrees to help transport a miraculously pregnant woman to a safe-haven at sea.

The Lobster

This film is an absurd dystopian black comedy that is set in a world where single people are given 45 days to find a romantic partner. If they fail to do, so they are turned into animals. This film stars Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz who are both looking for a relationship so that they can stay human.
