2019 was a good year for Bollywood and we got a chance to witness some quality content as well as fun masala films. Even as life has taken an unexpected turn with all of us social distancing and being locked away in our homes, it does give the chance to catch up on movies that you’ve probably been wanting to watch for a long time. Here are some films that released in 2019 and are now available on different streaming platforms. If you’ve watched these movies before, most of them still make for a great re-watch. URI – The Surgical Strike

This film is based on true events that depict the Indian Army’s retaliation to the 2006 Uri attacks. Through the life of Major Vihaan Singh Shergill played by Vicky Kaushal, this movie will take you on a journey that recounts in detail everything about the attack. Gully Boy

This film has been inspired by the lives of Indian street rappers Divine and Naezy. The movie follows the life of Murad Ahmed a.k.a. Gully Boy who lives in Dharavi and dreams of making his voice heard as a rapper. Directed by Anubhav Sinha, this film stars Ayushmann Khurrana as a police officer who goes against all odds to find out the truth behind a heinous caste-based crime. Article 15 is a hard-hitting movie that will linger on your minds long after the movie is over. Read our review here.

Mission Mangal

This film is inspired by true events and is based on India’s Mars Orbiter Mission, which was India’s first interplanetary expedition. The film stars an ensemble cast that includes Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Nithya Menen, Kirti Kulhari, Sharman Joshi, H.G. Dattatreya, Vikram Gokhale, and Sonakshi Sinha. This is the kind of movie that will leave you guessing until the very end. Badla is a thriller that stars Taapsee Pannu as a dynamic entrepreneur who finds herself in a locked hotel room next to the body of her dead lover. She then hires a prestigious lawyer played by Amitabh Bachchan to defend her. Let your work from home days be filled with some good suspense as you watch Badla (on the side, of course). This is a hilarious and entertaining movie that is perfect to play in the background while you are working hard…or hardly working. In this film, we meet a bunch of “losers” and get a glimpse into their past college life and their present life, when they end up at a reunion. Read our review here.

Super 30

This film is a biopic on the life of Anand Kumar who is a mathematics genius from a modest background. Starring Hrithik Roshan, we get to see how Anand Kumar started a training program named Super 30 to train 30 children from humble backgrounds to crack the IIT entrance exam. The Sky Is Pink

This biopic is based on the life of Aisha Chaudhary who was a motivational speaker and author. She was diagnosed with SCID and expired at the age of 18. This film tells Aisha’s story through the life of her parents played by Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Farhan Akthar. It is emotional but also entertaining. Read our review here.
